Being fresher, many of them are confused at this stage and many of them are ignorant about the importance of this time. No matter in whichever state they are, they always require an experienced counseling and self preparation. It all depends upon the nature of studies to decide, the kind of a job suitable for the students.
There has been a fear in the minds of students that they will not be preferred for responsible jobs. This fear raises many questions for them like whether they will be offered job by good companies or they will be simply ignored for being fresher. But for them time has come, when they can shatter this fear and come out of their shell. Corporate world is changing and at the same time mindset of the recruiters has also changed, thanks to the innovative recruiting methods and practices evolved over the years.
Saying this does not mean that it has become easy to get a job for a fresher, but it becomes more imperative
that they must prepare themselves for the present situations. Following are some guidelines that may help a fresher to be more competitive in the current scenario :-
The first advice to students is to go back to the basics. Learn and understand the basics of your studies and that would be according to the nature of your studies. The role of education is to equip everyone with knowledge where it can be applied in personal and professional life. In recent times, my interactions with students have revealed that they are missing their basics. Students studying Engineering stream could not even demonstrate an engineering skill, management students could not make a single management statement and graduates lack complete meaning of their studies.
It was a height when many students could not even tell which subject they have studied in the last two years.
If they don't know the name of their subjects how can they know the relevance of those subjects and where
they will apply its knowledge? It is exceptionally important to go to your basics and must not ignore any subject you studied while completing your studies.
The second advice to students is that they must keep themselves updated with the recent development in their
field (Technology). They miss the chances of answering the questions in interviews about the recent developments in their field.
Keeping away from even the bit of information in your field will push you steps behind others who are well informed. Keeping yourself up-to-date is fundamental as it can be one of the alternatives of experience. Having experience is having information and knowledge about the situation handling and presenting a better and effective solution to the problems.
The third advice to them is to improve the critical soft skills for placements. Most critical out of these soft skills is communication skills. Everyone must talk about and think about the communication skills, but in reality, little efforts are made to improve them. A fresher can improve his/her candidature by putting more efforts in polishing listening, reading, writing and speaking skills.
It is not necessary that communication skills can be improved only through English language, but any other language in which they can present themselves more effectively is equally important. Remember improving communication skills does not mean learning any language, but it is a process in which students develop the ability of thinking and giving it a structured approach.
The fourth advice to students, who want to get rid of the "fresher" tag, is to get advice from experienced people. Experienced people are the living reference books and they can be used for brushing and improving personality at all the times. No book can give better understanding than the experienced person.
Students must seek career counseling from the experienced and should have a mentor. It has been observed that students do not go for counseling session with a myth that they are not going to get benefit from it.
Students who are willing to become experienced freshers must understand that a small bit of extra advice and information makes the whole difference in life. It is a competitive world and it expects extraordinary performance to be successful.
