When the going gets tough, the tough try to stay positive

In today's high pressure work environment many people ind it difficult to remain motivated all the time. There are, however, a few who have developed the skill to focus on positives and most of the time these people end up as star performers for their organisations.

We all need to do a SWOT analysis on ourselves and find out more about our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities available to us, and perceived threats. Once we know our plus points we can plan accordingly.

We must set clear goals: both long and short term. Many a time the gap between capability and target creates lot of problems for people with negative attitudes. Always remember you are not alone and not hopeless. You should remember Charlie Chaplin's words, "Nothing is permanent in this wicked world, not even our troubles".

The words 'I can' instead of  'I can't' sound good and more positive. If you feel depressed and think negativity surrounds you, then identify the reason behind it. I don't expect miracles to happen overnight but a push towards positivity is the need of the hour. Don't try the escape route and avoid the problem. When you avoid dealing with a problem, it continues as it is or gets worse and your own negativity starts ruling your life.

Make your wish list and set a deadline to meet those wishes. Try making constant efforts to achieve the same. Meeting the deadline pressure will polish your skills and your brain will start ticking faster. Always try to control your mind. Gain mastery over your mind. People who feel that the future is 'hopeless' should make it a point to recall the happy memories of times spent with their families and loved ones, think about their childhood, laughter in the workplace and other high points in life.

Always remember that even successful people have seen ups and downs and some moments of low self esteem. We are all strongly influenced by our feelings, and these often determine how and what action we ultimately take. If the feeling is uncomfortable, negative self-talk results and we often decide not to take any action at all. Positive or negative self-talk plays a big part in your decisions.

As you begin to understand your reasons for negative self-talk, you'll find yourself recognising it more quickly after it occurs. Eventually, as you practice, you'll be able to recognise and stop negative self talk before it interferes with your decisions. When you are negative about the work you do, it increases your stress levels. Your mind switches off and does not look for solutions. Send positive messages to your brain and see the difference.
